SERVICES
Rick & Jessie's Deck Restoration are trained and equipped to provide a complete deck restoration project.
INSPECTING & ADVISING
The first step in successfully restoring your deck is to understand your desired outcome. Whether you're seeking a low-cost ongoing maintenance solution (ie. clean and re-coat) or a comprehensive restoration (eg. replacement of damaged timber, followed by sanding, washing and staining), we're here to advise and help.
To achieve your project vision, we often recommend starting with an onsite meeting at your property. We also offer contact-free options, such as video or phone consultation services, to gain a better visual understanding of your decking and project requirements. Once we have a full appreciation of your needs, we will then prepare a comprehensive proposal outlining our work and the materials we use.
CLEANING AND PREPARING
The appearance of your deck is affected over time by a range of weather conditions - including rain, heat and humidity; these conditions also contribute to the degradation of the previously applied coating. Therefore, restoring the look and longevity of your timber surfaces will depend on the current state of your timber and the quality of the preparation undertaken to achieve the finished look you require or desire.
Restoring your previously coated deck
Prior to the application of any coating, it is essential to thoroughly clean and prepare the deck area. The preparatory work we undertake for previously coated timber decks and furniture may include:
-
A deck wash with an advanced cleaning solution to brighten the timber surfaces (assuming your deck has been suitably maintained from the initial build).
-
Securing raised screws and nail fixings and replacing damaged timber.
-
For timber surfaces that are in poor condition, a stripper solution and/or sanding step may be required to remove previously applied coatings. This is followed by a wash to remove any residual tannin, oils and residues. We also undertake a second wash to neutralises the timber surfaces prior to the application of the coatings.
Preparing a newly constructed timber deck
We understand the importance of preparing your new deck so that its pristine look is maintained, and the finish is as impressive as it was on the first day it was built. The key to this result lies in the correct preparation and the coating applied to your new timber deck.
Which is why we recommend consulting with Rick & Jessie's Deck Restoration for a FREE, no obligation consultation. We can properly assess the most cost effective preparation as well as the most suitable coating and finish for your new deck.
We apply the same cleaning and preparatory processes to a newly built deck in order to extend its life and finish. This approach not only showcases your beautiful new deck, it will also avoid unnecessary deck restoration work and costs in the future.
COATING
After the timber is washed, we ensure the surface is completely dry prior to beginning the coating stage. We do this to enable the coating we apply to penetrate, protect and adhere to the timber.
We use a variety of timber finishes, including water-based formulations with advanced features that provide greater longevity and protection, whilst maintaining the natural look and grain of your timber. These formulations can be used for external and internal decks including pergolas, and other timber structures.
The timber finishes we offer can be used on most timber types and they come in a wide variety of colours, in both gloss and matt finishes. Our colour finishes include the choice of clear, natural, light oak, merbau, pine, weathered grey, western red, jarrah, river red, transparent black and japan black.
Our process includes a minimum of 3 coats for all major restorations. However, if your timber deck has been correctly coated and maintained from the initial build, a single coating application may only be required.
